Unfortunate ending to the Rolex 24 at Daytona for Mike Conway

Mike Conway's 2024 Rolex 24 at Daytona came to an unfortunate ending, as his Vasser Sullivan #14 Lexus RC F GT3 was caught up in an unavoidable incident in the opening hour - causing heavy damage and forcing the team into retirement later in the race.

Lining up alongside Jack Hawksworth, Ben Barnicoat and Kyle Kirkwood in the Vasser Sullivan #14 Lexus RC F GT3, it was Ben Barnicoat who made an impressive start to the race for the team and when he pitted on the forty-minute mark - Mike took over for his first stint of the race.

However, Mike's opening stint got off to a disastrous start through no fault of his own as an LMP2 car spun across the track in front of him at the exit of Turn 1 - leaving Mike with nowhere to go as he smashed the front end of the car into the LMP2, requiring extensive repairs.

The car rejoined the race after the Vasser Sullivan team worked incredibly hard to get the car back out in just over an hour but unfortunately, they had to retire in the sixteenth hour due to overheating issues and was classified 11th.

Mike Conway:

"Gutted. An unavoidable incident in the first hour of the race put us out of contention after a strong start. The team did a fantastic job getting us back out but unfortunately, the damage was already done and we were forced to retire the car. A huge thank you to the whole team for their efforts these last two weekends, they never gave up and deserved more from this race."
