Conway excited ahead of 8 Hours of Portimão

The 2021 FIA World Endurance Championship continues at Portimão this weekend as reigning champion Mike Conway prepares to contest TOYOTA GAZOO Racing’s 100th race in the premier class of the championship.

The 8 Hours of Portimão will mark the series’ first-ever visit to the Portuguese circuit with Mike and the #7 GR010 HYBRID crew of Kamui Kobayashi and José María López aiming to build on their promising start to the season following a third-place result at the season-opener in Spa-Francorchamps.

The 4.684km Portimão circuit sends drivers on a rollercoaster tour of the Algarve region, boasting extensive elevation changes along with a variety of fast, sweeping corners. On track, the team will face extra competition in the Hypercar category with the arrival of Scuderia Glickenhaus.

“I’m feeling really good heading into this weekend,” Mike said. “We’ve learnt a lot from our first race with the car and we’re confident that we have everything we need to go for the win again. Whilst we’ve never raced at Portimão, it’s a track that we’ve done a lot of testing at over the years as a team so I think we’re well-prepared for the weekend.”

A busy weekend gets underway on Friday afternoon with the first Free Practice session at 15:15. A further two Free Practice sessions follow at 09:35 and 14:00 on Saturday before Qualifying at 18:00 on Saturday evening. The green flag will drop for the eight-hour race at 11:00 on Sunday morning, running through to 19:00.

Viewers in the UK will be able to catch all of the action on Eurosport and through the FIA WEC app along with live timing available on the FIA WEC website.
