In-form Conway zones in on Mondello Park

Two-dozen British Formula 3 International Series combatants embark upon their second away meeting for the season with a trip to Ireland's Mondello Park next weekend.

Series leader Mike Conway says the circuit will be a natural follow-on after racing on Pau's street course.

"Mondello's a good circuit - tight and twisty - and some of the corners are similar to a street circuit, only they're quite slow," commented the Räikkönen Robertson Racing driver, who dominated the series in Pau two weeks ago. "We were there in November testing and we had a good setup then and a good setup at Pau so I think we should be strong."

Conway, who last year finished second and fifth at Mondello's two British F3 rounds, says he always likes the demands of racing on a small circuit. "I think that it is more of a challenge and the drivers that don't like it probably won't do well there," he said. "A lot of F3 drivers don't like Mondello because they see it as not really being suited to F3 cars. It's got quite short straights so I think that in overtaking terms it's quite hard, but it is possible. The Mercedes engine has got good torque that should pull really well out of each corner so we'll just take it from there."

Drivers test for three hours on Friday morning before qualifying on Saturday 24 June (11:00; 14:45), followed by rounds seven and eight on Sunday 25 June (10:30; 15:45) at Mondello Park International Racing Circuit.

Terrestrial coverage of the Pau rounds will be broadcast this Saturday (17 June) at 7.30am on Channel 4.
