Promise of Pau beckons for Conway

Pau
26 May 2006

A week out from the highlight of the British Formula 3 International Series calendar-Pau's awesome street circuit-and racer Mike Conway is feeling ebullient. The Räikkönen Robertson driver is in fine form coming off the back of a win last week and looking to show the same adeptness he demonstrated upon his debut in the Macau F3 GP last year, where he wowed at highly-charged, unforgiving street circuit.

The Sevenoaks driver hopes to continue his capture of pole positions on the rolling, scenic French road course, where chances for overtaking are minimal.

Qualifying will largely determine who comes out on top on the 1.7mile route at the foothills of the Pyrenees and this will play to Conway's precise, sharp style of driving.

"I always enjoy the street circuits; this'll be the third one I have been on now," he said. "The footage that I have seen of Pau looks really good, a good second to Macau, and I was quick there, so I think that Pau should be the same."

The inimitable French event has attracted a larger field for rounds five and six of the championship. Conway is keen to rise to the challenge of the extended grid when they line up in the first of four away venues for the 2006 season.

"Our team has got experience there and so have Carlin; Signature will be there too so I think they'll be the three teams who'll be fighting for the wins and the podiums. I am really looking forward to it; I think that all the drivers are, it will be great fun and very challenging so it should make for a really good weekend."

The schedule for rounds five and six is: qualifying at 15:30 Saturday 3 June and 08:40 Sunday; race one: 14:15 Sunday; race two: 14:10 Monday 5 June.

Coverage of rounds three and four can be viewed on Channel 4 tomorrow (Saturday 27 May) at 7.30am.
