CONWAY NOT GIVING UP AS F3 MOVES TO GERMANY

British Formula 3 Championship
Rounds 17 & 18
Nurburgring, Germany

Sevenoaks racing ace Mike Conway insists he is not going to give any less commitment to the rest of his British Formula 3 Championship season despite the points gap that has now developed between himself and series leader Alvaro Parente.

In fact, as the prestigious junior single-seater series heads to German Grand Prix track Nurburgring this weekend (Sept 3/4), the 22-year old Fortec Motorsport driver is eager to continue striving for as many podiums and race wins as he can get in the remaining six races, starting with this weekend's two outings.

"The championship may not be a realistic goal any more this year," explained the Kent man, who is now 108 points adrift of Portuguese leader Parente. "Second place in the standings is still possible though, but it means I've got a lot of work to do. I'm always after wins of course, but from now on I need to make sure I finish on the podium all the time."

That presents the plucky driver, who is the reigning Formula Renault UK champion, with a genuine challenge for this weekend, as he has never driven on the famous German Nurburgring circuit before. Adding to the challenge will be the fact that the F3 drivers will be racing on the full GP configuration of the legendary track, alongside Germany's DTM touring car series.

"Obviously I know the layout of the track, and I've seen plenty of on-board footage of it. I've also spoken to quite a few people who have driven the track before," said Conway. "Even so, it should be interesting because we only get a 30-minute practice session on Friday before it's into qualifying.

"I don't think I'll do anything differently. In half an hour of practice, I should get about 15 laps in, and I should be able to get up to speed in that time. You just have to get out there and push hard, you can't hang around."

After practice on Friday morning, Conway will take part in first qualifying on Friday afternoon. On Saturday, qualifying two takes place as well as the weekend's two championship races.
