CONFIDENT CONWAY READY TO MOVE UP A GEAR AT CASTLE COMBE

British Formula 3 Championship
Rounds 11 & 12
Castle Combe, Wiltshire

Sevenoaks racing driver Mike Conway, 21, is aiming to step up his assault on the British Formula 3 Championship as the season reaches its half-way point at Wiltshire circuit Castle Combe this weekend (June 25/26).

The Fortec Motorsport driver is currently third in the standings of the UK 's most prestigious junior motor racing category and is just seven points behind leader, Estonian Marko Asmer, after eight races.

Although his tally of four podium finishes and one win is superb for a rookie in the ultra-competitive British F3 Championship, Conway reckons that the time has come to start the push for the title, especially with the points situation so close.

"You've got to start thinking about that at this point," he explained. "It's not that we've not been trying so far but we've got to make sure from now on that we're scoring podiums and wins. The team is working really hard to try and find some extra time in the car and we're getting to the point now where we need the ultimate set-up on the car at every round."

The Kent racer, who is the reigning Formula Renault UK champion, is confident that he has his car set-up perfect for the quick Castle Combe circuit, which he has not raced on since he was in Junior Formula Ford back in 2001.

"We tested there last year," he said. "It will be slightly different with the new car for this year but thanks to the work we've already done, we know where the changes are going to be. Castle Combe has some nice long straights and some fast corners so it should suit me. There are quite a few places where you should be able to pass, too. I'm sure that we can have another strong weekend."

Qualifying for this weekend's 11 th and 12 th rounds of the British F3 Championship will take place on Saturday, with two races on Sunday.
