WEC: Conway heads new line up for Toyota Racing in Texas

17th September 2014

LONDON – 17th September 2014 – After a three month break over the summer, the FIA World Endurance Championship season resumes with its fourth round at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin this weekend, with Mike Conway part of the driver line up for Toyota Racing.

Conway will be taking the place of Kazuki Nakajima, who has other racing commitments in Japan, in the Number 7 TS040 HYBRID alongside existing Toyota Racing team mates, Alex Wurz and Stéphane Sarrazin.  Toyota Racing currently hold a one-point advantage in the Manufacturer’s World Championship whilst Number 8 drivers Anthony Davidson, Nicolas Lapierre and Sébastien Buemi, lead the driver standings by 20 points.

Conway is no stranger to WEC after running with Delta Motorsport last year in the LMP2 class and making a strong performance at the prestigious Le Mans 24 Hours race.

“I’m really excited to be racing the TS040 HYBRID for the first time, especially at the American round of the WEC” said Conway; “I spend a lot of my time in the US with my other racing commitments so I feel really at home in front of the American fans. I had a good test with the TS040 HYBRID in Magny-Cours last month which helped me adjust to the 1,000PS four-wheel-drive hybrid system, and I have also been over to TMG in Cologne for a simulator session. So I feel well prepared for my LMP1 race debut and I can’t wait to get started working with the team, as well as Alex and Stéphane, in Austin.”

The action kicks off in Austin on Thursday with two practice sessions, while Friday hosts a final practice hour in the morning with qualifying in the afternoon.  The 6 hour race then gets underway Saturday evening, starting at 5pm local time.
