Dreyer& Reinbold Racing Right on Pace at Barber Motorsports Park
9 Apr 2010
Dreyer & Reinbold Racing hit the pavement at
Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham, Alabama today, marking the third time
that both of the team's drivers, Justin Wilson (No. 22 Charter) and Mike Conway
(No. 24 Roll Coater), have run laps around the 2.38 mile road course. However,
this weekend will be the first time for both the team and the drivers to
compete on the picturesque circuit.
Immediately, Conway proved again that he was back
to his true racing roots. Although track conditions were much different this
time than they were when DRR tested at Barber Motorsports Park a couple of
months ago, that didn't seem to deter the Brit much. In the first session it
was all about dialing the car in and getting the No. 24 Roll Coater machine
adjusted to the changing circuit. He clocked the 12th quickest time in practice
one with a time of 1:12.8887. As the second session rolled around, Conway was
happy with the changes that were made and he clocked the 9th fastest time of
1:11.7170.
It was a similar story for Conway's teammate, Wilson. The Brit was quick right off the bat as he earned the third quickest time of 1:12.1044 in the first practice session of the day. The team made some changes for practice two and that combined with catching traffic left the No. 22 Charter crew searching for a new and improved path for tomorrow. Wilson was 12th fastest in the last session with a time of 1:11.9248.
Dreyer & Reinbold Racing will be on track for the Indy Grand Prix of Alabama Presented by Legacy Credit Union in Birmingham, Alabama on April 11th. The qualifying broadcast will air live on Saturday, March 13th at 2:00 pm (EDT) on VERSUS. The race telecast will air live on Sunday, April 11th at 3:00 pm (EDT) on VERSUS. What they have to say about the Indy Grand Prix of Alabama:
Justin Wilson, Charter No. 22: "I think Dreyer & Reinbold Racing had a solid day today. In the first practice the car felt good and we were running at the top of the speed charts. The afternoon session was a bit disappointing as we tried several different set-ups, but we couldn't find the speed we were looking for. I'm confident that my qualifying effort will be good."
Mike Conway, No. 24 Roll Coater: "Today was okay. We tried a lot of things this morning and this afternoon. Towards the end of the afternoon session we seemed to get a balance that I was pretty happy with and I was able to get some reasonable times out of. We found the right direction that we want to go in. We just need to keep chipping away and work on all of the small things to get it more comfortable. We need to see what we can work on overnight and see what we have in the morning. I'm looking forward to tomorrow! ."
