Dreyer & Reinbold Racing Runs in the Top-Six in Edmonton

23 Jul 2009

Edmonton, Alberta, Canada (July 24, 2009 ) - Today was a good start to the weekend for Dreyer & Reinbold Racing as they had strong runs in both practice sessions for the Rexall Edmonton Indy.  The team ’ s hard work at the last road/street course events have paid off as both cars ran in the top five and top ten most of the day.

Englishman Mike Conway showed his speed right off the bat.  Af! ter a much needed break and two solid efforts in Watkins Glen  and Toronto, the 26 year-old proved that he was a road racing pro as he ran in the top-five most of the day.  Conway showed that he was right on par to qualify in the fast six tomorrow.  He made his first appearance in the fast six in Toronto two weeks ago.  The rookie is making his first showing at the 1.96 mile street course as he finished 6th (1:02.9546) in the first session and 6th in the second session (1:02.4343).

Tomas Scheckter had a good solid day in practice.  After a weekend off, the South African is fully prepared for his first visit to the Edmonton circuit.  He is ready to get the car setup right for qualifying and the race.  Unfortunately, after clocking the eighth fastest time in the second practice session, Scheckter damaged the rear wing after making contact with the tire barrier in Turn 7.  He was 14th (1:03.8464) fastest in the first session and 15th (1:03.4343) quickest in the second session.

The Indianapolis based squad will be! on track for tomorrow ’ s practice at 11:45 a.m. ET and then again at 5:20 p.m. ET for qualifying of the Rexall Edmonton Indy.

What they have to say …

Mike Conway, No. 24 Dreyer & Reinbold Racing:  “The track is good and I’m really enjoying it.  We just tried to get  the setup as good as we could for qualifying tomorrow.  We weren’t able to get the best run on our tires in the last stint, so we dropped down a little bit in the end because of that.  I’m fairly happy with it.  We have been in the top six all day and now we just need to keep steppi! ng it up and hopefully qualify in the top three tomorrow.”
