Dreyer & Reinbold Racing Off to a Good Start for Practice in Toronto

10 Jul 2009

Toronto, Ontario, Canada (July 10, 2009)- Today was a good start to the weekend for Dreyer & Reinbold Racing as they had strong runs in both practice sessions for the Honda Indy Toronto. The team’s hard work in Watkins Glen last weekend paid off as both cars ran in the top twelve most of the day.

Englishman, Mike Conway showed his speed right off the bat. Coming off a solid weekend in Watkins last weekend, the 26 year-old proved that he was a road racing pro as he ran second most of the race and, due to balance issues, finished sixth, his best result of the season. The rookie is making his first appearance at the 1.75 mile street course as he finished 14th (1:03.0203) in the first session and 11th in the second session (1:02.1916).

Tomas Scheckter had a good solid day in practice. After a weekend! off, the South African is fully prepared for his first visit to the Toronto circuit. He is ready to get the car setup right for qualifying and the race. Scheckter was 19th (1:04.1912) fastest in the first session and 12th (1:02.3048) quickest in the second session.

The Indianapolis based squad will be on track for tomorrow’s practice at 9:40 a.m. ET and then again at 2:05 p.m. ET for qualifying of the Honda Indy Toronto.

What they have to say…

Mike Conway, No. 24 Valspar: “The session was okay for us. The two runs we had in session one and two were alright. We basically have been improving the car over the last two runs. I’m still happy with what we learned from the car. We still have more to improve and I think we will be fine. There are things we still need to find to be quicker and to put us in the top six. At the moment, we are nearly around the mark and with all the sectors added together, we are at P7. Really, we should be trying to break into the fa! st six for tomorrow’s qualifying. As long as we get some good things changed overnight, which looks like we are going to, then we should be in good shape for tomorrow’s session.”??

Dennis Reinbold, co-owner Dreyer & Reinbold Racing: “This is our first time as a team here at Toronto, as well as for Mike Conway and Tomas Scheckter. As we talked after t! he practice session, we did about fifty laps for each car, which are the only laps of experience that we have on this track. So to be where we are with 11th and 12th place with speed, we are pretty happy with that. We opted to save our sticker set of tires in the end which as the yellow came out, that worked in our favor. I think we have a lot to gain tomorrow. The track keeps getting quicker, the adjustments we are making seem to be working and our drivers are going faster, so it’s a good thing.”
